What is calf augmentation?

A calf augmentation is performed to reduce the unsightly effect produced by the lack of development of the calf muscles and the soleus. Also, it can be done in order to correct the cases derived from other types of diseases, injuries or genetics.

What should you consider before doing a calf augmentation?

You will be required to stop smoking six weeks before the surgery. It will be recommended to not take any aspirins, anti-inflammatories or even herbal supplements few days before the surgery. And the last but not the least, no sports for the lowest muscles will be allowed for 20 days.

Who is it for?

Patients are going to go through a calf augmentation, after an excessive weight loss or lack of muscles and then can’t have a proper development of this anatomical area.

Surgical technique

 

There are two technics of calf augmentation:

  • Fat augmentation: The patient’s own fat  will be previously collected by liposuction, then filtered and processed to be infiltrated in the area.
  • Reconstruction with implants: Through a small incision in the back of the knee, an implant, made of silicone gel, is going to be inserted, to give to the calves a nice volume.
